How to plan a network

The router gives you Internet access; the switch shares that connection among wired devices, and access points take WiFi where the router does not reach. If you are connecting IP cameras or access points, a PoE switch gives them data and power over the same cable. For 1 Gbps, Cat5e or Cat6 cable is enough; for 10 Gbps over long runs, Cat6A or higher. And if the cable is shielded, the connectors must be shielded too.
