The UniFi AC HD is the access point Ubiquiti designed for crowded places: classrooms, meeting rooms, hotels, hospitality venues. Where a home AP saturates with thirty phones, this one holds more than five hundred associated clients.
The real difference from the previous generation is MU-MIMO. 802.11ac Wave 1 talked to one client at a time and shared the time between them all; Wave 2 with 4x4 MU-MIMO serves several simultaneously. With the same number of connected devices, that translates into up to 75 % more aggregate throughput.
It is powered over PoE 802.3at from the switch, so only a network cable reaches the ceiling: no socket and no power supply in the false ceiling. The two Gigabit ports support LACP aggregation for when a single link falls short.
It is managed from the UniFi controller, which installs on a PC, a server or a Cloud Key and is operated from the browser. From there every AP on the network is configured at once: SSID, VLAN, per user QoS, isolated guest network and coverage map. There is no per access point licence.
It includes the mounting hardware for ceiling and wall, compatible with that of the UAP-AC-PRO.
