Genuine Apple adapter for connecting Thunderbolt 2 equipment and peripherals to a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port. It is the piece that lets you keep using a Thunderbolt 2 drive, RAID array, audio interface or capture card on a modern Mac.
It works both ways: it also connects a Thunderbolt 3 device to a Mac with a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port running macOS Sierra or later.
It works with Thunderbolt displays such as the Apple Thunderbolt Display and the LG models with Thunderbolt 2, although the Apple Thunderbolt Display needs its own power supply, because the display draws no power through the adapter.
